It started with my ipad saying "not charging" when it was plugged in - to the wall charger, not the computer. Turns out it was actually charging, even though it said otherwise. I went to the Apple store and they said it's because I haven't updated my ipad from itunes in a few months. So, I should go home and do that and then see what happens.

But, now that I'm home and trying to do that, itunes won't even recognize my ipad is plugged in as a device. It recognizes my ipod perfectly fine, but not the ipad. I've tried various cords. I've rebooted (both the ipad and the computer) numerous times. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice. How am I supposse to update it if I can't even get it recognized? Is there a way to do it manually?

In case it matters, I'm using Windows 7.

I wouldn't put it in dfu mode unless iTunes recognizes it or your going to be stuck with an un usable iPad

You have a one year warranty from the date of purchase. They do have an out of warranty replacement price but I'm not sure what that is for iPads
