"other" data shown in Sync bar graph

Recently I have upgraded my original iPad 64mg to version 5 software. I noticed that the bar graph which shows the Capacity of the iPad has an unusual amount of Yellow colored "Other" software or programming
shown. For example my iPad shows Audio 8.6gb, Video 10gb, Photos 0.65gb, Apps 21.7gb, and Other 16gb. What is this other that seems to be taking so much space on my iPad?? Any help in understanding this
would be appreciated.

Other can include things like contacts, messages, mail etc. try restoring and setting up as new or remove a big app and sync to see what happens
