I have an iphone with the personal hotspot through Verizon. I am new to iPad's. Assuming I always have my phone with me is there any reason I would need to get the 3G version rather than just the basic wifi version?

Added question: I see Verizon charges mobile broadband monthly fees for 1 GB $20 3 GB $35 per month. If I am connecting the iPad through my personal hotspot do I still pay these fees?

Which is faster wifi or 3G?

Thanks.

I like having the option. My first gen iPad was a 3G version and it was great having 3G when I needed it. Just activated it when I needed it. Then I sold it and got a desktop with the money and then purchased a wifi only version a few months down the line. I MISSED not having built in 3G. I tethered with my Android phone but it killed my android battery extremely quick and it was annoying to have to pull out the phone, turn on hotspot, etc. Having it built in is perfect.

And I cant stress it enough that if you dont want it activated, turn it off. It was a life saver when traveling.
