What is the difference between a ripper and converter.

We typically talk about ripping when putting something on a cd or dvd, ie ripping the mp3's to a disc. Converting is literally that - you convert from one file format to another. No saving to external media is required.

Really there is no difference. It's converting from one format to another, though ripping usually means from a physical media to a file.
