    Default Wireless N

This is why I don't really trust speed test.

I pay for 10 and sometimes I get 13. But usually get 2 down.

I set the modem to G only.

I will try my lynksys tomorrow.

If you only have DSL speeds then G is fine because you are still limited by the DSL speed rather than the wireless speed.

Can I increase speed with a better modem, if so which one.

A while ago there was thread that explained how to increase wifi performance. I made the changes on my old device and it seemed to work better.

I do not recall the changes I made. I tried to find the thread but couldn't

    Does anyone recall.
From what you are saying in your posts, the modem is fine bc you get consistent speeds on the MacBook. You need to look into the router and settings.

What u mean? The speed of N? Not its useful everywhere. Supposedly it has better coverage. I don't really notice much difference in G and N

Provider speeds are not a guaranteed speed. It depends on network congestion, etc. If they are saying 15/2 and you are getting 9/1 that is pretty normal.

Oh yea, but that's a good thing. A lot of ppl have severs for the home network. They store there media on them for watching in other places so fast wifi is great.
