Buying as a gift

I'm going to order the iPad mini for one of my family members for Christmas since they love mine so much. I kind of dont know if I should buy apple care or not. I have apple care for my iPad 3 but felt like it was a waste since I do take care of my device. Do any one recommend adding it as a gift. If they happen to break the screen is it covered ?

I think Apple has a new AppleCare that covers accidentally breaking it. Like dropping it. They replace with a $50 fee (only twice). Someone correct me if km wrong.
