Whats difference between itouch and 2nd gen

I know this must look like an obvious thing to many of you, but you try finding a simple answer. I can find loads of specs but no direct comparison. I have a first and second gen(3G) iphones. But I know nothing about the iTouch.

2nd Gen iPod touch is similar to the iPhone but lacks the cell radios, obviously (no phone calls, no 3G data connection) which means you're limited to WiFi only. It does have Nike built in, however.

Also it is thinner but has a 32GB option.

Anything specific?

I wasn't sure if it had 3G, although now thinking about it that would require a data plan. A friend asked me if he shoudl buy a new 2nd gen or and older model, and I didn't know what the difference was to be able to offer him any advice.
