Back in the day, artists were given award via the Grammy's or the American Music Award show in simple categories like, soul, rock, country, jazz and Gospel. Now however, it appears to be a slew of categories an award can be given. How many are there today?

Such sub-genre, you should watch Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, the amount of sub-genres in metal is staggering, and the vast majority find their basis in thrash.

There are almost too many categories of music today. I think in a search to be so specific we have overdone the breakdown of musical categories
