Beating 3 Pokemon in a level 3 gym (not your team) will reduce the gym to level 2 or 1 with a corresponding number of Pokemon guarding it. Once you bring it down to zero, or neutral, you will be able to claim the gym for your team and place a Pokemon inside

If you can see the map and the 3 starter Pokemon on the screen but it is not allowing you to tap one and go to the capture screen you may have to delete and reinstall the game. Hope that fixes it!

How were you able to attach a photo? I don't see the option, and I'm on iOS

It's my understanding that only one module can be attached at a time. But, being in range of two or more stops at the same time with all having modules attached will maximize your Pokemon opportunities (I do not suggest placing them all yourself, that will quickly get expensive). Popular areas...
