I'm trying to upgrade to jailbreakable 4.0.1. Upgrading through iTunes will force an update to 4.0.2, on which you cannot jailbreak. My old bootrom 3GS 3.1.2 is currently jailbroken (via blackra1n). How can I do this?

new 3GSs are being sold with a new bootrom version that prevents the 3GS from being jailbroken. how can you find out your bootrom version? i just bought a 3GS yesterday. i have a pc so i put the 3GS in recovery mode and took a look at it with usbview. it says nothing about the bootrom version...

i have a jailbroken 3.0 OS. i'm currently waiting for an easy to way to jailbreak 3.1 before i update. so far, i'm reading alot of EICD, IBCC, and other files and signatures that don't make any sense to me. stuff like "you should get your EICD before upgrading so you can downgrade in case" or...

i recently did a restore today and then a subsequent jailbreak with purplera1n. after running freeze, cydia downloads 3/4 of the way and the stops, even though autolock is off (and keeping wifi on). i kept trying the same thing a couple time to no avail. edit: ok it stopped half-way this time...

in the installous settings, i can't tell if the the selected install method is on clean or dirty--the highlight colors are confusing. so if it's darker blue on "clean," then i'm on the clean method?

restoring the iphone via itunes restored 3g internet without wifi. i'm going to reinstall SBsettings without touching the edge toggle. we'll see if the internet works with 3G on with edge + wifi off.

i installed SBsettings to toggle Wifi, 3G, and Edge. i toggled wifi off. when 3G is on and Edge off, i don't have internet. when both are on, i do have internet. why? i thought that 3G was sufficient for internet?
