Android to 4S - Miss Status Bar Notifications...

For Gmail you can either setup an account in the iphone mail client (which is pretty poor) or download Google Search which has Gmail built in via a web interface, which is pretty good.

    Anybody's phones acting a little different/glitchy after ios5 update?

Other than some lag in typing, (most noticeable between the actual input and the audible click) I have no real probs to report I did a clean install using the IPSW on my iP4, and a Restore From Backup on my iPad 1, no probs either way. A bit less responsive than how everyone's describing their...

post here if you left your blackberry for the iphone

I keep one of each (bb9800) since bb still does a few things i really like though the list is getting smaller: - led status light (love it) (ios5 flash notifier thingie is pointless IMO ) - auto on-off ( still cant understand why apple or an app developer can't do this for iPhone ESP given its...

    exchange to phone

I run mine on exchange via google apps, as far as I know you'd have to sync via iTunes to something like outlook, then sync back to the phone. Mine creates two sets when I do this: one "pc" set and one "exchange " set. I keep a set on outlook as a backup, but run most of the time thru exchange.

About to upgrade - new or restore?

FWIW the first time I installed OS5 yesterday I did Restore From Backup. Everything went fine but phone was definitely sluggish esp when typing texts etc, when the text tone and reaction from my touch was quite clearly out of sync with the onscreen execution. I also did notice pretty quick...

All the New "Slide" features on Lock screen?

Also, if you find the text too small in the banner version of the notification, you can either turn that banner off or reassign it to a center panel popup instead. This can be done within the Notifications settings for each individual app.

    Dead battery in 5 hrs.

I just did another setup, this time As New Phone (unlike yesterday with Restore From Backup, when battery life seemed poor). Not enough conclusive evidence yet to determine if it makes a difference, but phone is absolutely snappier as a fresh install. A pain in the butt to reinstall and reset...

    Weather widget help please

Ya the advance promo never really demonstrated precisely how the new notification system would work, so I too expected to see all these cool widgets on the Lock screen when in fact they mostly only show on the pulldown screen. The new system is a huge improvement, just not exactly what many...

    iCloud vs. Google Sync

I stick with Google Apps for all syncing. It's a more robust solution anyway, at least for business. Also, by sticking with Google I can throw my SIM in my BB or any other compatible phone and still sync everything without losing a beat. iCloud forces you to remain forever loyal to Uncle Apple.

    Sync Reminders with Outlook

Reminders is a standalone app that doesn't communicate with anything.

Email Not Alerting Me In Lockscreen

Make sure you are enabling "Mail" in Notifications...I had the same thing for awhile until I noticed I had only set Messages for the Notifications..Mail is a separate module further down the list!

    iCloud vs Google (sync)

Gmail is one thing, Google Apps is another completely.

    Syncing google contacts

Don't know how you have your system setup but I do the following (running Google Apps for Calendar, Contacts & Mail). Note that because Google is a better sync solution I do NOT use iCloud (except for Find My Phone) : In Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars> select active mail account and turn ON...

    So where is Facetime 3G

When I'm in a phone call there's a Facetime button on the active call panel, presumably just press that if you're talking to someone on a compatible device. Presumably it's all hidden and transparent behind the scenes, like iMessage. It just works, but only when connected to compatible devices.
