macOS Sierra - mid-2012 MacBook Pro Gets Extremely Hot

My mid-2012 MacBook Pro works great. Honestly, I've never had a computer that worked so well after 4 years. I've noticed recently, though, that just above the function row gets very very hot. Like to the point that I can't touch it for more than a couple of seconds without hurting.

Is this due to the beta? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Most likely due to the OS being beta. One of the risks of running beta software. Maybe see if it is fixed after the next beta is released. Did you file feedback to apple?
