Saving Facebook messages

Hi,
I really want and need to save my Facebook chat messages to and from my son, whom I tragically lost in December, to my MacBook Pro.

I've tried downloading the chatsaver app, but there seems to be an additional piece of software that is required for this to work with Mac, which I cannot get to open up.

I would very much appreciate some detailed help from anyone who has successfully managed to do what I am trying to do.

Thank you. I've actually managed now to do it on a Windows PC, and save as a PDF. Took three hours to get the files downloaded and working, but a few seconds to save the thread going back a couple years.
