Would anyone have any idea if a dent like this would be something to stay away from if purchasing from someone?

Probably not a bad deal for a 2012. Depending on where the dent is, I'd take a look at ifixit teardowns and see what's in that spot.

Ended up picking up the MacBook. $200 for a 2012 with 8gb of Ram and 500gb hard drive was just to good to pass up. Going to upgrade to 16gb ram and add a SSD hard drive.

Perfect! For $200 its worth a try, particularly if you couldn't find anything wrong. The SSD is going to be your biggest upgrade, for sure!

Ended up picking it up to hard for me to pass up. Ordered the additional 16gb of ram and I'm looking at a new SSD drive. What is everyone using for the SSD drive?

I have a Samsung 850 EVO I put in my 2011 Mac Mini. I believe it will work in the 2012 MacBook Pro as well.

Crucial and OWC both offer kits as well.

Picked up a 256gb SSD for $60...so I have $120 invested so far. 2012 MacBook Pro with 16gb ram and 256gb hard drive. Have an additional 128gb flash drive ordered for extra music/movie storage.

Cool!

Let me know how it works once you get the SSD in; it should feel like a brand new machine.
