After 8-9 long years, I finally was able to upgrade and purchase a new (Apple certified refurb) Mac.
My old Mac: iMac 5.1 (released 2006 - dual core 2 duo, 2gigs of RAM).
My new Mac: 2015 13" rMacBook Pro with force touch - basic config
It still amazes me on how long these Macs function for. It's very impressive. My old iMac can still do basic tasks such as word processing and Internet usage. It no longer can be upgraded (software side) and runs Snow leopard. Great for a secondary school computer for the kids.
I also wanted to point out that if you're in the market to purchase a new Mac and don't mind not getting a fancy box, consider an Apple Certified Refurb.
