MacBook Pro stuck on grey screen

After I reboot my Mac I first get my login screen and enter my password. After doing so I get a grey screen with Apple logo and a loading bar which seems to show it loading only up to half way and then I'm stuck. I'm pretty sure I'm running OS X 10.10 or something similar to that. Please anyone who can offer assistance I'd be so grateful for.

Try booting in safe mode. If successful, disable the items that you may have set to start when OS X boots up?
