Just picked one up as well a few days ago, I am extremely happy with it.

All the apple apps of course, they are the first that I installed. :)

So far I've installed twitter, hitman, caffeine , Dropbox , Photoshop illustrator and game agent. I'm so happy with my purchase.
There was a 10% sale so I got $200 off. Was pretty worth it. It's my first 15 inch MacBook with retina display.

Enjoy your new computer! I'd probably grab Fantastical and Tweetbot, if it were mine because those are great apps that I use on a daily basis

I can't bring myself to spend the $20 on Tweetbot. Use it on phone and ipad tho

For me, $20 was not a lot to spend on an app that I use all day long, every day. That was less than the cost of one dinner out for my wife and me. It was way less than I spend on truly useless or unnecessary crap over the course of a day or a week. Tweetbot is a great app, and well worth the cost of admission. But this is just my opinion.

Other apps I highly recommend include:

Tincta (text editor)
HandyPrint (sets up your network printer for airprinting from iOS devices)
Path Finder (Finder replacement)
Moom (window control/sizing utility)
TextExpander (text short cut / expander utility)
Easy Remote Desktop (for managing other computers remotely)
Bartender (previously mentioned)
CustomMenu (lives in the tool bar and create shortcuts to apps)
WiFi Explorer (monitor wifi connections and wifi networks)
Photoshop Elements (image editor)

Some of my everyday Apps are:

Alfred - Speedy App Launching (not the App Store version)

Uninstaller - Does what you think.

Hazel - Automate frequent tasks.

Dropbox - Everywhere file-syncing.

CarbonCopyCloner - For local backups and folder syncing.

BetterZip 2 - For un-zipping stuff.

And...

Things
ReadKit
BetterRename
Filebot and MediaElch (for Movies/TV Show)
