Are some / all of Apple's software update servers down.

I am on a Mac Pro with 10.7.5. everything is working as usual, including full access to the Internet.

But, when I try to run Software Update. It reports back that the file on the update server cannot be found.

"Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem."
and...

"The file ?index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog? couldn?t be found on the server ?swscan.apple.com?."

When I try to ping the update server by name, the ping times out.

" ping swscan.apple.com
PING p01-swscan.apple.com.akadns.net (17.146.232.12): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1
Request timeout for icmp_seq 2
Request timeout for icmp_seq 3"

The only thing that has changed is that I manually ran Pacifist and installed the Pro Codecs because the software was not installing as expected.

Anyone have a thought?

It's possible that Apple could be experiencing server-related issue.
