Transferring with iFile before linking Dropbox

So, I tried to send a file to Dropbox from iFile without first linking the Dropbox account. I've got Dropbox installed on my iPad and I figured it would just ask to sync. It didn't. Instead it used up 2.8GB of my hard drive and I haven idea where iFile sent the file. I have no idea how to regain the 2.8GB that are now missing. I tried to send it to Dropbox multiple times since when nothing happened, I figured I should try again. I got a message saying my iPad was almost out of memory, so I deleted the original file in iFile to clear up some space, but it didn't free up the other memory I should have. I had over 7GB free before I started all this, now I have less than 5GB.

I've tried the following:

restarted the iPad (multiple times)
Reinstalled iFile
Deleted and Reinstalled Dropbox
Poked around the Dropbox Application folder via iFile (but I didn't delete anything).

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am thinking you may want to get ahold of the iFile dev (he's very good at answering his many emails) and see if he has any idea how to fix this.
