Default Cydia Crashes after Jailbreak on IOS 6.1.2

I have an iPhone 4 and installed evsi0n 1.5 last night everything seemed to fine, my phone rebooted with the Cydia app.
However when I tap Cydia, it crashes immediately and when I try to reinstall the jailbreak I get a message "Your device appears to be using a semi-tether jailbreak.
Please use the evasi0n untether package from Cydia to untether instead."

Has anyone else run into this ? Can some one point me to a link for the "untether package"

I've jailbroken in the past and have never seen this before.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hey,
You should probably restore your device to factory settings, remove the jailbreak and try jailbreaking again. Cydia crashing could either mean you tapped the "Jailbreak" button too many times, or there is a corrupt file!

    Good luck, hope this helps!

The only problem with this advice is that if he restores, he will be on 6.1.3 and jailbreaking that is a big PITA. It is even possible it cannot be done, as 6.1.3 is not officially jailbroken.

I have found a tutorial . Please try this out and let me know if it works for you. It should fix the issue.

Try deleting a large file or some music.

I've seen nearly full iPhones have this problem. Cydia would crash. As soon as a movie was deleted, Cydia came up, ran its check, and worked fine ever after.

Yes, but he can always just use the option/alt key and download iOS6.1.1 or whatever he likes and restore to that and jailbreak.
    It's all upto him.

Also, deleting any large file won't help as if Cydia is crashing, its simply because the jailbreak file is corrupt.

He can use that option and be told he's not eligible for that version.

You're making assumptions. He jailbroke last night. It's entirely possible it never loaded up correctly, based on what he posted.

If it never loaded up properly, I've successfully fixed that problem with the file deletion.

If you're going to speak as if your answer is the only possible answer and attempt to eliminate troubleshooting steps, at least be aware that your "simple" solution won't work nearly as simply as you believe.

You cannot restore to anything but the current firmware, which for him is 6.1.3. He cannot restore to "whatever he likes".

    Thanks,

Yes, I should have said that I tried restoring to the 6.1.2 default by downloading that version to my pc and then selecting in Itunes by Shift clicking on "Restore"
No dice. When the process completes I'm left exactly where I started with Cydia DOA.

I have a copy of Iexplorer and thought that it might be helpful, if only I knew which files to mess with.
At this point I may just have to go to 6.1.3. I really don't want to do that, IOS without Jailbreak = crippled smart phone.

BTW - I may have over tapped on the Jailbreak icon. I know that free space on the phone is not the issue.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Let's try to get a bit more information.

Did Cydia ever open correctly for you?
Is this your first jailbreak on the phone? If not, did you save old SHSH blobs? If you bought the phone from someone else, you can see if they stored SHSH blobs by downloading redsn0w and doing a remote query to Cydia's servers. Being on the iPhone 4, you're able to downgrade to older version of iOS in case things come to that.

If you're unable to fix it, 6.1.3 has had some success being semi-untethered jailbroken using redsn0w and some fun tricks.

No Cydia never opened for me.

    First Jailbreak on this phone.

The phone was purchased new - no SSH blobs

I assume that SSH blobs are phone dependent. Someone else's iPhone 4 blobs won't work on my phone. Correct?

I am finding the iPhone without tweaks is very cumbersome.

    Thanks for the help.

Yes, the blobs are device-specific, and you cannot use someone else's blobs. If it's the iPhone 4, you can try the semi-tethered jailbreak. You have to use a computer to boot, but you can have Cydia and tweak all you want. , and .

Do you know anyone running on 6.1.3 on an iPhone4?

I'm curious if the semi-untethered jailbreak workaround will work with the evasi0n untether from Cydia after the semi-untethered does the dirty work.

I am not sure if this would work, but try downloading the evasion untethered jailbreak from your computer, and place it onto your iphone via ifunbox or another pc ios file browsing program. If this doesnt work, you may also be able to manually transfer some files over from a computer.

I do not personally know of anyone, but I assume this would not work; otherwise the dev-team would have people doing it. My understanding is that the 6.1.3 firmware is incompatible with the code of the evasi0n untether. So even if he was successful with the 6.1.3 jailbreak, I do not think Cydia would let him install that.

If you're still trying to solve this, have a look at this page:

Specifically this section on using redsn0w to help you boot into a state where Cydia can load:
"Since you jailbroke successfully, I assume you have the iOS 6.0 ipsw. Open redsn0w, click Extras-> Select IPSW. Choose the 6.0 ipsw for your phone. Click Back and then "Just boot." Follow the DFU instructions. After your phone boots up, you should be able to open Cydia. Let it complete initializing filesystem. Tap Search in the lower right corner, find and install the evasi0n untether package. Reboot. You should be in business."
