Pod2g has stated it already before that he's had an untethered jb ready but was waiting for Apple to drop 6.1. Only a matter of time now. A few more weeks maybe sooner.

If I understood the article, the jailbreak should work with both 6.0.x and 6.1. That's news to me. I was under the impression it would only work on 6.1.

They are saying the JB exploit is still present in the public 6.1 version. So you are safe to upgrade. Don't do it via OTA. Use a computer.

Looks like SuperBowl Sunday will be the release day of the JB.

Not sure, but I'd assume you could just download the 6.1 ipsw and do a restore in iTunes?

DOH! Out of nowhere the update showed up, and since I have wifi at work, updating I went.

AND THEN I SEE THE WARNING NOT TO UPDATE OTA! So the question is, for me, how does one download just the 6.1 ipsw and do a full restore if one has already updated their 4S (in my case) to 6.1? I know it is via iTunes, and that there has to be a tutorial here somewhere, but a little direction would very much be appreciated.

no worries dude, you can still jailbreak, just maybe not downgrade...

you can always restore as new to make sure you have the complete 6.1 firmware saved

Yep. But as stated above it's probably not a big deal, it's just one of those things where you're better safe than sorry.

The whole reasoning behind doing it through iTunes is that if you want to ever downgrade or re-restore you need the correct ramdisk, ap tickets and shsh blobs, which are NOT correct if you do OTA or update through iTunes. The dev team recommends a full backup-restore to get the correct items and then save them. It will not affect the jailbreak, but possibly other tools in the future.
