Keeping the Jailbreak ? Confused : (
Ok so im confused. Im shifting from 4s to 5. While im going to backup everything to icloud and then ill just restore from backup/icloud on my new iphone 5 , that way i get to have everything
My real question is , if i format my phone (4s) from settings -> general -> reset -> erase all content and settings , will i loose my jailbreak also ?Will the phone go to factory? . I ask this because i know if you restore your phone through ITUNES then jailbreak is lost and phone is set to factory settings.
I want to give this phone to my dad , but still keep all jailbreak apps and settings. Also once i give it to him how do i make him use his own apple id. (where does he create one) - 11-13-2012, 07:46 AM #2

Once you reset you lose your jailbreak. Jailbreak apps work like iTune apps though, in that they are tied to your Cydia account. So your dad can't keep yours unless you share your account with him.

You will loose your jailbreak if u reset. I don't know if it signs you out of your apple id, but either way, after u reset, go to settings>store>apple id & sign out. Press sign in & it'll ask u weather you want to sign in with an existing id or create a new one.
There are jailbreak apps to backup & restore your jailbreak data. I'd look into that before restoring the phone & rejailbreaking. - 11-13-2012, 12:23 PM #4

Re: Keeping the Jailbreak ? Confused : (
When jailbroken don't ever, ever, EVER (did I mention ever??) erase all contents and settings. This will throw your phone in a respring loop and you'll be forced to restore through iTunes.
As to Apple ID - you can create one from either Settings -> iTunes, or from one of the actual store apps. Needless to say, first you must log out.
Assuming you're syncing your contact/email/reminders/etc through iCloud, once you log out, the info will be taken out of the phone and it will be essentially fresh, ready for the new owner
If you have jailbreak woes, you can iMessage me at iDonev@me.com. I'll try to help (provided I have time to spare). - 11-14-2012, 11:21 AM #6
Re: Keeping the Jailbreak ? Confused : (
OP if you're giving your phone to your dad why do you want to reset it? Especially when you want to keep the jailbreak. It's easier to just manually clean it up which takes like half an hour at the most. I just sold my iPhone 4 to my cousin yesterday so I had to do the same thing. Just hook the iPhone up to iTunes and then uncheck sync for all your media, apps, music, podcasts, videos, etc. Do a sync and then go to settings Email and delete your email accounts. Go to Store and Sign out and in iCloud if you have it set up on the device turn off all the options. Select delete data from device in order to get the iCloud data stored on the device off. Then once that's done go to the bottom of the option and select Delete Account. It wont do anything with your iCloud account it will delete the account from that device and allow you to login with a new ID. On the homescreen press an icon until they go into jiggly mode and look for any that have the "x" available and get rid of the app. Do a reboot and the iPhone should be pretty much cleared. As Alli said the Jailbreak apps will still be on the device so unless you want your dad to use any of the paid apps go into Cydia and uninstall them. Once you give the iPhone to your dad just sign into the Store with his Apple ID and setup an iCloud account for him and you're all done.
can't upgrade via iTunes check this thread http://forum.tipb.com/jailbreak-unlo...ml#post1717460
