Gmail Tweak

Long time Gmail user here. Love the new Gmail app, so much more than the stock mail app, only problem is new messages/notification from this app don't show up in the notification center. In settings, I have it set up so gmail has banners and shows up in the notification center, however, this isn't happening. I assume it's a gmail issue, but are there any tweaks to fix it?
