OK. I bought an iP1 for my wife, running 4,3,5, and jailbroken. The guy who sold it to me forgot to tell me it was a tethered JB. Mine is also JB, but untethered. Anyway, I downloaded something off Cydia that required a hard reboot, and then much to my disdain, it was stuck in DFU. So, I had to DL redsnow, and tether it to get it to reboot. I'm completely lost about the tethered JB. Can I hook her iPad up to my laptop, and access Cydia thru redsnow, or just download something, and when it tries to reboot hook it up to redsnow? Any guidance would be appreciated.

You did exactly what you are supposed to do with a tethered boot. After a restart, EVERYTIME you have to run redsn0w and select boot tethered and follow the directions.

Now that there is an untethered jailbreak available for iOS 5.0.1 on A4 devices (Ipad1 included), I would upgrade her iPad1 to iOS 5.0.1 and then use latest version of redsn0w so her iPad1 can be untethered.
