I need major help!

hello people.
I am studying abroad in Spain, and failed to unlock my iphone 4 properly..leaving me with an iphone that plays music, takes pictures, and gives me wifi when needed. I just updates my software 2 days ago and it restarted my iphone. It will not let me continue becuase it keeps telling me i need to put a simcard. I put in my At&t sim and it isnt working. I am assuming because my iphone isnt unlocked. I need my camera and music!!! how do I get passed the configuration!????

Why not just unlock the device so that you can use it?
