Question Do I need to "restore" in iTunes before upgrading to iOS5?

Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere already.

I decided to lose my VZW 4.2.6 Jailbreak and try out the stock version of iOS5 (at least until the untethered JB comes out!).

I read in these forums that I should first do a "restore" in iTunes. When I do this, I get the following error message (screenshot attached).

Am I doing something wrong? Can I ignore the "restore" step and go straight to clicking "upgrade" in iTunes?

    Thanks in advance!

Put your phone in DFU mode then iTunes will recognize it and tell you your iPhone has a problem and needs to be restored. It will then upgrade your iPhone to the latest software build which should be iOS5. You can find how to get in DFU mode by doing a quick search. It worked nice and easy for me. Got to tell you though I miss my jailbreak already but I know an untethered JB is coming soon...

    Hold power for 3 seconds
Continue holding power and press home button and hold all for 10 seconds
Let go of power and continue holding home button for 6 seconds.
Your phone is now in dfu.
