I'm just scared while I am doing it that I am going to get an error and break my $500 device and I want someone to help tell me what to do if this were to occur.

You won't 'break' it - the worst you can do is bork the OS... and that is fixable - just put it into DFU mode, hook up to iTunes, and do a factory restore. Read the tutorials linked Under the "How To" tab at the top of the page - and also the jailbreak forums - should be simple.

You have the iclarified link go there look in Tutorials, iPad, Jailbreak and pick your method for the firmware you have. Just follow the instructions and be patient. If you get an error post here and wait for someone to help. Don't do crazy things just because you think it MIGHT work.
