After JB the phone, you need to install Ultrasn0w, through Cydia, to unlock. Ultrasn0w is not capable with the most recent Baseband found in the official firmware 4.1. Thus, to better answer your question, we need to know your current Baseband, firmware version and what Iphone you have.

Yes, that firmware still uses modem firmware 01.59.00. Just download ultrasn0w from cydia.

If you want to go to 4.1 or 4.2 make sure you use TU to keep your modem firmware from upgrading...
