Need help jailbreaking and unlocking an 3GS with 4.0.2.

New iPhone user here so be easy one me lol. Well I have a 3GS (32 GB model) with iOS 4.0.2 Now I heard I could jailbreak this phone with the current OS by using redsn0w. Question is this correct and if so where do I start? Also would jailbreaking my iPhone make me lose all my apps I already have?

redsn0w ONLY works for the 3G, NOT 3Gs. If u weren't jb before then ur SOL till a new jb is released. And no, jb'ing ur phone won't do anything to ur current apps

So my best bet then is to downgrade the firmware? How would I do this then?

U can only downgrade IF u have ur shsh blobs saved on cydia then u can, if not u can't jb
