"iphone could not be restored" ??

iphone 3gs...3.1.3...05.12.01...never been jb or unlocked before....itunes 9.1.1.12....tried to jb w/spirit then got locked on apple logo....tried to restore thru itunes and got message stating "The iphone could not be restored. This device isnt eligible for the requested build." I tried to read some threads to solve my problem but have had no luck. Can someone please help?

Not sure how or why....but after two days of being stuck on apple logo....after powering on and off couple times....now phone back on and appears to be jb.....did not have to restore not sure what happened.....
