carrier lost after I jailbroke my iPhone

I jailbroke my iPhone 3G firmware 3.3.1 using Pwnage Tools
Everything worked fine. But now the carrier (3) has disappeared!
I cannot make/receive calls, send/receive text messages...

Anybody out there knows what I can do in order to get my networks settings back again

what did you use to jb? sn0wbreeze? when creating the firmware... did you choose "yes" or "no" to activate? if you are on the carrier it was made for, you should have chosen "no".

I wonder, would doing a restore to your previous backup help?

You did not indicate whether you had a factory unlocked unit or you are fine on being locked to carrier. When you restored to the previous firmware, you essentially reformatted your iPhone 3G. However, what you just need to do is reapply the unlock software (it would depend on what baseband your iPhone unit is on) and you can use your iPhone's phone functions again.
