Can I jailbreak iPhone without taking the SIM out?

Hi, i have a jailbroken iphone (3.0.1) and i want to jailbreak it to 3.1.2.
Is that safe? I heard that many users have problems with WiFi and many other things while using BlackRa1n?
My SIM card holder is broken, so I CANT TAKE THE SIM CARD OUT,would that be a problem while unlocking iphone?

Is Blackra1n the only way to do that!?

I don't believe you can go to 3.1.2 right now but I'm sure someone will clarify.

You can upgrade to 3.1.2 and JB. I used Blackra1n with NO issues.
