Edit App Icon Name?

Sometimes the name of an app is too long (too many characters) and either gets truncated or runs over the adjoining app's name. Can this is remedied?

Can the name of an app (under the icon) be safely edited ?

I'm talking about a jailbroken iPhone, of course.
