bricked?

hey,
i never knew what 'bricking' was until now.
this is the second time after a jailbreak my phone has been bricked,
i read its damaged firmware?
what can i do about this?
last time it happened i just restored it, but i want this to be the last time it bricks.
i'm not all tech savy so i hope it's not complicated.
