Unlock iPhone 3G 3.12 without data connection

Hi Guys,
I am trying to jailbreak and unlock a 3G iPhone with 3.12 firmware. I downloaded BlackRa1n to RC3. I am wondering if I can unlock the phone WITHOUT data connection? Since I need to run sn0w to unlock the phone and not sure if I need data connection to do this. Secondly, do I need to run Cydia and Rock if I only want to unlock the phone? Thanks a bunch!

You will need a connection to the internet, so wifi will work as well.

If you only want to unlock the phone, then Rock and Cydia are not necessary.

Thats true. But it is HIGHLY recommended to install cydia and mobileTerminal.. for jb troubleshooting. also OpenSSH while not required can help out if you get bugs..which unfortunately happens.
