Still researching jailbreaking and tethering my iPhone to my laptop, and this post is in regards to a members previous response to a post I made two days ago:

My friend says they can't monitor your usage because you get a new IP address every time you're on, also the new AT&T plan gives you unlimited datat for $30 on you iPhone anyway.

So if you're using 10 gigs of data a month (that would be my maximum use, most likely), how can they find out? You could be doing it on your iPhone, for all they know.

Any response would be appreciated, thanks.

They will be able to track the amount of data used, since it is tied to your account.

As far as usage, they might inviestigate heavy usage. Since "Unlimited" data plans are normally capped at 5 GB, my guess is they would investigate any account that is double the capped limit.

If they could do it easily, they would not have to engage in agreements, in restraint of trade, with Apple to restrict access to apps in general and specifically traffic intensive apps.
