I would recommend updating your phone to 3.1.2 before you use Blackra1n RC3, absolutely. Start from a clean update, and set up your iPhone as new to avoid any problems.

Yes. Whenever you use any kind of update from Apple, it will always undo any jailbrake stuff. Think of it as a wipe and reload on a computer.

Wait -

go into Cydia right now, and download an app called "AptBackup".

Open it. Tap "restore". Then connecttoday iTunes. Sync your iPhone.

After you run blackra1n and re-install Cydia, download "AptBackup" AGAIN, and then click "Restore". Wait 10 minutes, and you're almost exactly like you previously were.

when i do the update will i lose prvious jail broken stuff?

Install the Rock App through Cydia and do a backup for jailbroken apps. Find this through sources with com.rockyourphone.rockapp.

You will have to set up an account with RockApp for this to work.

You will need to install RockApp after the jailbreak. You can then go to Manage/settings/restore from backup to select a restore point.

Yeah, I've used it successfully twice already. But it will only work it you restore from backup, NOT if you set it up as a new iPhone. When you use AptBackup, it saves the info in your restore file when you sync with iTunes.
