HELP. iphone 3g wont jailbreak

i just bought an iphone 3g that was supposedly unlocked for tmobile. i put my sim in and i had no service so i figured i'd jailbreak and unlock it myself. So i went home downloaded redsnow and an ipsw for 3.0. Ran it a couple times but cydia would never be installed so i tried to start from scratch and restore the iphone. BAD IDEA. it updated to 3.1 and i'm assuming updated the baseware as well. Is there currently a way to restore it? I tried using the same ipsw and using the shift-restore method in itunes but it kept telling me it was not compatible.

3.1 is not supported on jailbreak yet

you are not be able to downgrade the baseband at this time

I believe U may B stuck... There is NO JB 4 3.1 yet. Their workingon it.

I misstated... I think MAC has JB 4 3.1...Not sure though I use PC W/Vista. Check out JB Forum.
