Unlock original iphone 3.0.1?

So, havent seen much info on the original iphones. I have my wifes old Iphone that I was trying to Jb/unlock. its on 3.0 right now, so I was gonna use Redsnow. I went to restore it to clean it out, and Itunes wont let me restore the thing without an upgrade to 3.0.1, and I havent seen anything on whether I can Jailbreak and unlock an original iphone on 3.0.1 with redsnow or any other tool...

It looks like you can use redsnow on 3.0, Can anyone clear this up for me? and if I need to restore this thing, how do I keep it on 3.0?

You can jailbreak/unlock 3.0.1 so just update.

I restored the iphone to 3.0.1 and made sure I had redsnow .8 and the 3.0 ipsw,

everything was running smoothly until the phone shuts down, I get thru the power button, power and home button, and then home button and then it gets stuck on waiting for reboot...

Help anybody? why wont this reboot? Ive jailbroken a ton of phones including this one before 3.0 and I cannot figure out why this is happening...

Restart your PC, put your iPhone back to normal mode and rejailbreak the iPhone again.
