as of now I'm using a 3G wit redsn0w 0.8. Does the option in winterboard to "dim wallpaper" help save battery life? I have also weathericon & LiveClock installD by turning these off does it preserve significant battery life?!

Hmm, the dim wallpaper I am not sure of, but I do know some things such as PushMail(cydia) will drain battery life like a mad man. Also things that you have running in backgrounder, liveclock may be draining a bit. Basically... anything you do not need, don't use.
