its not purplera1n, nor redsn0w that's causing the issue. Lots of people seem to blame the JB when it's actually some conflict with software installed after the JB.
If you have SSH installed, you can always download the cydia deb file, ssh it to your phone and reinstall it via "dpkg -i".

yes i used purplera1n, tried to reinstall it thru the freeze program, also tried the ssh method both with the same result, still crashes upon opening it. I agree with Matt74 its just a conflict with another program, going thru everything i installed or updated since yesterday.

if cydia crashes on you go to your mobile terminal and type:
su root [enter]
dpkg --configure -a[enter]
that should fix your problem. if not, ssh into your device and navigate to:
and scan through it for something like: you must manually run blahblahblah to fix the problem, it should be on the 4th or 5th line and then do the same as above but change the second command.
