iPhone repair help

I am trying to replace the screen on my iphone 3g with a new glass and digitizer. In trying to disassemble the phone, the screen will not lift open due to the severity of damage to the glass at the lower end of the phone (by the dock connector). I have released the glass, but the LCD did not come out of the case as shown on all of the walkthroughs. Is there a good way to get the LCD part out of the phone by another method?

Those videos make it look a lot easier than it really is... you have to be forceful and you should have the proper case opening tools.
