Newbie Question

How do you make the iphone only use free wifi contections? I don't have a data plan and don't want one. I just got hit from AT&T for $40 for data use. Just want to know how to disable data over the air and just
use wifi. This is a 2G iphone and it is Jailbroke and unlocked.

I had the same question when I got mine. I also have a first gen, jailbroken iPhone. But I too, did not want the data plan. Just the wireless. Well, did you jailbreak it? Because if you followed the instructions on this board for jailbreaking 2.1 (found here: http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2008/1...neration-iphone-21-windows-pc-edition-part-2/) they tell you to install Cydia. Hopefully, you did. Because through there, you can download an app called "BossPrefs". This app acts like your "settings" app, but with more capabilities. Through there, you can disable "Edge" and therefore, won't be able to use the data plan wherever you go. So you don't have to worry about charges because you won't be using Edge to connect to their network wherever you go.

Just remember to re-enable it if you want to make and receive calls. Also, get SBSettings as well. It makes toggling a lot easier.
