Out of curioisity, when you say it "breaks" the jailbreak, does it "break" the iPhone (you have to go through a restore) or does it just remove the jailbreak (and jailbreak apps) but otherwise leave your iPhone alone?

When you update the firmware it will put the phone back into it's normal state. Just like it would be if you just bought it. Sorry for the confusion.

okay, so then you just "re-jailbreak" it, and you are good to go, right? No restoring from backups, no restoring firmware, etc.

Now that I have jailbroken, I was concerned about when a firmware update would come out.

Correct, but the only downside is you will have to wait until the proper software is released in order to do that jailbreak. So you might have to use the latest firmware without jailbreaking for a short period of time.
