What it took to get it to finally work for me was to download a fresh 5.1.1 ipsw file and restore using the 'new' ipsw - the one I downloaded earlier in the week to prepare for today didn't work for whatever reason.

is there a 5.1 tethered to untethered solution like crazy raccoon for 5.1.1?

I'm afraid not buddy! You have to update to 5.1.1 and then install Rocky Raccoon. Which now supports both builds of 5.1.1.

Is there any reason for you to stay at 5.1?

Just don't feel like going through the bs of updating/redoing everything. Have no need to go to 5.1.1. Would still be on 5.0.1 if I didn't grab a new phone before my 1 year went up.
