How do I move songs from an iPod to a new iTunes account

My brother is giving me an old iPod (either a Nano 4 or 5 not sure, coming from out of town). It has Cd's he owns copied to it. Can I sync it to to my iTunes on my computer? I want to sync for a backup if this iPod dies or I get a newer one and want to transfer my songs. Thanks

you can never copy music from an iDevice to a computer, thats all because of DRM an DCMA

In theory, yes... What the OP needs to do is get the files from his brother on a thumb drive or similar external storage and copy them to his computer and import into his iTunes library then sync as desired to device(s).
