Identifying them in iTunes is pretty straight-forward.

You can sort by type and select all .m4a (AAC) files... you can also convert the format to MP3 by changing your default import setting to MP3... and then right click on the selection and choose CREATE MP3 VERSION... but that will create duplicated items - one of each format... then you’d have to deal with that...
