I was just curious if music/movies that I purchase from iTunes can be burned to CD or DVD?

If so, do I do this in iTunes program or export to a different one?

Music is easy and can be done within iTunes. It doesn't have any DRM.

Video, however, does have DRM. You would need to break the DRM. Then use another program to write to DVD.

Sorry for being a noob with the question (I haven't purchased music/movies on iTunes yet), but when I buy music/movies on my laptop, it will save to my harddrive?

You can copy the movies to a DVD, but they won’t be "playable" in a DVD player... there are ways to legally do it, but it can be convoluted and time-consuming. IMHO, it’s easier to buy the DVD and then rip it for iTunes (or other media players/formats).
