Can no longer update iTunes on my PC

All of a sudden I get an error message saying unable it remove previous version please contact tech support. The will be an hour on the phone w Apple I have a Dell 2004 (don't laugh, it's in the process of being replaced lol). I need iTunes to update my devices.

Can you remove the older version using the Add/Remove Programs function first, and then just install the new iTunes 11?
