iTunes shows two iPhones after JB

I just upgraded to 4.2.1 and JB. In iTunes I now see my iPhone plus another one with no data that is stuck in recovery mode according to iTunes. I can eject the second one and everything is fine but it shows up every time I open iTunes even when my iPhone is not connected. This started after I jailbroke. iTunes 10.1 Mac OS X 10.6.5.

I thought I saw a solution to this somewhere but I can't find it so sorry for reposting.

have you tired uninstalling and reinstalling itunes?

I was hoping for a less drastic solution
